Fahad Rahman is set to become the youngest FIDE master in Bangladesh
after clinching the title in the Open Under-10 group of the 14th ASEAN
Age Group Chess Championship in Chiang Mai, Thailand yesterday.
“According to the FIDE regulations, the champion in the meet will be awarded the title of FIDE Master and Fahad is set to be FIDE Master,” said Harunur Rashid, arbitrator of the Bangladesh Chess Federation.
The former national junior champion drew with Huynh Hai Him of Vietnam in the ninth and final round to earn 7.5 points.
Fahad, patronised by GEMCON Group, also won the bronze in the Rapid chess section.
