Magnus Carlsen defeats Viswanathan Anand, becomes new world chess champion


Magnus Carlsen of Norway on Friday became the new world chess champion after defeating maestro Viswanathan Anand. Carlsen defeated Anand by a margin of 6.5-3.5 in the World Chess Championship as the 10th game ended in a draw.
With this win over five-times world champion Anand, Carlsen has become the second youngest world chess champion at 22.
The world championship is a 12-game affair over 20 days and the first to reach 6.5 points wins the series. This is Carlsen's maiden title.
