Nouri, Mendoza lead Pinoys in World Youth Chess

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines will field an all-star line-up in the 2013 World Youth Chess Championships slated for December 17-29 at the UAE University in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates.
Seven-year-old Alekhine Nouri, who this year became the youngest Fide Master (FM) in the world, and FM Shania Mae Mendoza will spearhead the country’s campaign in the FIDE-sanctioned event.
Alkehine, a grade 1 pupil of the Far Eastern University-FERN College in Quezon City, is fresh from winning the Under-8 category in the 5th Penang Heritage City International Chess Open in Malaysia.
Also seeing action in the World Youth Chess Championship are veteran campaigners FM Marie Antoinette and Jerlyn Mae San Diego, and Michael COncio Jr.
The organizing committee of the event has also invited International Master (IM) Jan Emmanuel Garcia, IM-candidate Janelle Mae Frayna, FM Paulo Bersamina, Daryl Unix Samantila, FM Allaney Jia Doroy, Mary Tan Joy and Yecla Precious Day
